Why Design Mix Concrete exists
Design Mix Concrete is an independent engineering-tools website built around a simple idea: a useful concrete calculator should show the engineering path to the answer, not only print a recipe. The core calculators are free to use. Optional advertising and paid calculation reports help fund the site.
What the calculators are designed to do
The regional tools help users build a preliminary concrete mixture from project and material inputs, then inspect the calculation trail. Depending on region, the workflow covers target strength, water-cement or water-cementitious ratio, water demand, cementitious content, absolute-volume proportioning, aggregate split, admixtures and moisture corrections.
The site currently provides separate workflows for India (IS 10262), the United States (ACI 211.1), Europe (EN 206 context), the United Kingdom (BS 8500 / EN 206 context) and Germany (DIN EN 206 / DIN 1045-2 context). Regional pages are intentionally separate because terminology, durability rules and national provisions differ.
What the calculators do not do
They do not certify a mix, replace a laboratory, approve structural concrete or guarantee field performance. Real concrete depends on the actual cementitious materials, aggregate grading and shape, moisture and absorption, admixture compatibility, batching accuracy, temperature, transport, placing, compaction, curing and testing. A calculated starting mix therefore has to be verified through the project quality process and trial batches before construction use.
Source and review policy
We separate three things whenever possible: engineering principles that are broadly applicable, standard-specific requirements that depend on the governing edition and jurisdiction, and project decisions that must come from the specification, responsible engineer or approved laboratory process.
- Standard names and current-edition context are checked against the responsible standards organisations where public information is available.
- We do not treat a strength grade as a universal mix recipe. Where a search term such as “M30 mix ratio” implies a fixed recipe that is not technically defensible, the page explains the limitation instead of inventing one.
- Worked examples are labelled as examples and use stated assumptions. They are not represented as approved project mixes.
- Regional pages link to the relevant calculators and guides so a user can move from explanation to a transparent calculation rather than relying on a single table.
- When standards are revised, the relevant calculator and explanatory pages should be reviewed before the revised provisions are presented as current.

Advertising and paid reports
The free calculators and educational pages remain usable without purchasing a report. Advertising is kept away from trust/legal pages and from the top of substantive pages; manual ad placements are deliberately limited so the engineering content remains the primary purpose of the page. Paid reports are optional formatted outputs of the user's calculation and do not convert a preliminary result into an engineering approval.
Corrections and feedback
If you find a calculation issue, broken link, outdated standard reference or unclear explanation, please use the contact page. Useful reports include the page URL, the input values used, the result you expected and the reason you think it should differ. Material corrections should be made to the calculator or article itself rather than hidden in a disclaimer.
